How We Help

Spinal Cord Injury

A spinal cord injury is not an injury you recover from and move on. It changes how you live, what you can work at, what your home has to become, and what care costs for the rest of your life. A case like this has to be built for all of that, not for the bills sitting on the table today.

The mistake that costs the most

The bills that exist today are a fraction of what this injury will cost. The hospital stay and the first rehabilitation are the visible part.

The rest is decades long: attendant care, equipment that wears out and is replaced, home modifications, vehicle modifications, medication, the complications that come with immobility, and the income you will not earn.

Settling a spinal cord case on the medical bills to date is the single most expensive error possible in this area, and insurers know that a client under financial pressure early is a client who might take it.

What a properly built case accounts for

  • Lifetime medical care, projected by professionals who do this rather than estimated
  • Attendant and personal care, including who provides it and what it costs when family cannot
  • Equipment across a lifetime — chairs, cushions, lifts, and their replacement cycles
  • Home and vehicle modification, both now and again as circumstances change
  • Lost earnings and lost earning capacity, which are different things
  • The human part — independence, privacy, and what the days actually look like

Complete and incomplete injuries produce very different pictures, and so do injuries at different levels. The case has to reflect your situation specifically rather than a category.

Finding every layer of insurance is the real work

These are the cases where available coverage most often falls short of the harm. One driver's policy will not fund a lifetime of care.

So the early work is a search: every applicable auto policy, an employer's coverage if anyone was working, umbrella and excess policies, a property owner's coverage, a product manufacturer where a defect contributed, and your own underinsured motorist coverage. Finding one more layer changes these cases more than any argument does.

Getting help while the case runs

Cases of this size take time, and families need to function in the meantime. Part of Boyd's job is practical: coordinating with providers, dealing with the liens so they do not consume the recovery, and being straight with you about the timeline instead of leaving you guessing.

Call early. It matters more here.

Evidence has to be preserved, the coverage search has to start, and no early offer should be considered before anyone knows what the future costs. The first conversation is free and Boyd takes it himself.
